Brooklyn, New York February 17, 2015 art on paper is moving inside to Pier 36, launching
this March 5 8. Our new location affords us new opportunities. We’re ramping up our
installations, and we’re partnering with some of the city’s top institutions and best restaurants
to make the Lower East Side’s premier event space a dynamic destination. art on pape r’s 55
exhibiting galleries will feature work by artists who look to paper as a major influence in their
sculpture, drawing, painting, and photography.
OPENING NIGHT PREVIEW BENEFIT
The proceeds of an exclusive opening night celebration featuring great food, local bands, and
the best in paperdriven art from around the world will support art on paper ’s Beneficiary
Partner Brooklyn Museum and its school programs. Morris Sandwich Shop will offer their
famously decadent, local & seasonal grilled cheeses, speciality appetizers, and housemade
cocktails to Preview Benefit guests. The beloved food truck’s brick and mortar Crown Heights
spot may be new to the scene, but it’s already an institution, hitting Eater’s Brooklyn Heatmap
just last week. Brooklynbased Live Footage the two part jazz + classical = electronic
performers will provide the evening’s cinematic hip hop musical entertainment. New York
City’s high profile art world luminaries, including top collectors, curators, museum directors,
and artists, will be in attendance to support the Brooklyn Museum and to have first look at the
art on paper presentations and special project installations.
HIGHLIGHTS & SPECIAL INSTALLATIONS
art on paper will include monumental installations by Wayne White, Mia Pearlman, William
Beckman, Michael Scoggins, and bestselling author of A HeartBreaking Work of Staggering
Genius, Dave Eggers, each reaching into the fair's public spaces. Presented by Joshua Liner
Gallery, Wayne White's largerthanlife, handcut sculptures constructed of cardboard will
dominate exhibition space, towering over the viewer. JHB Gallery will fill the fair's common
area with Mia Pearlman's colossal suspended paper cloudscape, Maelstrom , 2008. Forum
Gallery will present a 10footlong charcoal on paper from William Beckman's Bull Series, a
fitting nod to the fair's new proximity to the bulls of Wall Street. Dave Eggers’ Untitled blown
into oversized proportions will welcome the public to art on paper with its towering rabbit
image shouting “glory” along the fair’s front promenade.
art on paper 's innovative exhibitor presentations will include an installation of Rose Eken
sculpture by New York City's The Hole and an exhibition of Swoon and RETNA by LA's New
Image Art Gallery. Steven Harvey Fine Arts Projects will bring a mix of modern masters and
the contemporary including Diebenkorn, Arshile Gorky, and Ann Gale works on paper.
Richard Levy Gallery will present John Baldessari's National City from 1996/2009, a series of
eight photographs of the artist's hometown with hand painted acrylic circles, and Catharine
Clark Gallery will show a solo booth of largescale drawings from Sandow Birk's monument
series

Presenting partner The Wall Street Journal will have an active presence at the air, with
exclusive tours, receptions and complimentary passes for WSJ+ members, as well as free
daily copies of the paper and WSJ. magazine for everyone at the fair. Sponsor Palomino will
have their Blackwing pencils on hand for fairgoers. Once the favorite writing utensil of famous
writers, musicians, and artists, including John Steinbeck, Truman Capote, and Stephen
Sondheim, the rarely available pencils will be the official scribe of art on paper. Sponsor
Perrier will be on hand, filling the art in paper bars and public spaces with their innovatively
designed bottles and cans.
