Symposium
This symposium, co-organised by Jon Bird from the Middlesex University and Luke Skrebowski from the University of Cambridge, includes a conversation with Hans Haacke and presentations by international speakers on various aspects of the artist's work and art in the public domain. In March 2015 Hans Haacke's Gift Horse (2013) will be installed on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. Gift Horse constitutes a searching reflection on the politics of its site and continues Haacke's critical engagement with British culture which he began with A Breed Apart (1978), an investigation into former British car manufacturer Leyland's links with the apartheid regime in South Africa. Hans Haacke's work was represented at the ICA in 1969 as part of Harald Szeeman's seminal exhibition When Attitudes Become Form: Works, Concepts, Processes, Situations, Information, which travelled to London from Kunsthalle Bern, as organised by Charles Harrison of Art&Language. 7 Mar 2015 11:30
