comunicato stampa

The exhibition ongoing brings together works by artists Silvia Marzall, Lätitia Norkeit, Rosa Rücker and Kathrin Sohn which from different perspectives and with different media all deal with the dynamic concept of the path.

“The journey is the reward" is a well-known Chinese proverb that goes back to Confucius. The path between a starting point and a desired destination, the in-between, is a state of limbo, where everything is possible - still or again. In this sense "to set of" can also be read as "leaving" ingrained, familiar ways of thinking and acting. The exhibition ongoing revolves around this process of being on the go, in order to arrive at an elsewhere.

Silvia Marzall's photo installation belveder (2010) is based on a study of walking in the city of Brasilia, which was carried out in 2010. The 44 photographs show trails, created by abbreviations of pedestrians that obviously contrast with the geometric grid of streets of Brasilia, once planned at the drawing board, and undermine this.

In her video work Quasi Green (2012-15) Lätitia Norkeit looks at different manifestations and aspects of paths. The work is based on one of Norkeit's artist books, that brings together photographs and lyrical texts on urban green areas and parks: "The park as a backdrop, enriched with worn furniture dating from the planning stock, paths which lead you as a visitor, and places which inspire you to linger. The visitor walks around, looks for the pleasant and hangs out."

In her work Objekt im Zeitvolumen (2014-15; english: object in temporal volume) artist Rosa Rücker links raster drawings, cubic paper sculptures and a crocheted object with the help of an orange item to form a composition in space. It is a "drawing in time," occurred during the period of a train journey from Berlin to Moscow.

Kathrin Sohn's installation Erinnern Portraitieren (2014-15; english: portraying remembering) deals with the process of portraiture and the associated problems of codifying, establishing a person in a portrait. The resulting of the ongoing process, drawings, collages and objects, are brought together in an installation that alludes to the artistic practice as an ongoing, repetitive activity, producing differences.
