Presentation of the catalogue
The Landscape reader compiles numerous artistic and theoretical approaches with the aim of reflecting on the present-day role of landscape. It is based on five exhibitions that have taken different approaches to exploring the theme: Disputed Landscape (Camera Austria), Landscape: Transformation of an Idea (Neue Galerie Graz), Political Landscape (Institute for Art in Public Space Styria), and Landscape in Motion and HyperAmerica (Kunsthaus Graz). With texts by Jens Asthoff, Estelle Blaschke, Reinhard Braun, Katrin Bucher Trantow, Gudrun Danzer, Gunther Holler-Schuster, Christian Holler, Monika Holzer-Kernbichler, Katia Huemer, Philippe Kaiser, Alanna Lockward, Dirck Mollmann, Karl Schlogel, Elisabeth Schlogl, Claudia Slanar, Christian Schwagerl, Robert Smithson, Hannah Stippl, Thomas Weski, as well as a conversation featuring Sabine Flach and Peter Pakesch. Curator and author Thomas Weski will give a short lecture on the role of American art photographers in the 1960s. Subsequently, three artists involved in the exhibition 'Uncovering History'Anthony Haughey, Jo Ractliffe, and Ahlam Shibli, will present their work, followed by a roundtable discussion with the artists along with Peter Pakesch, Reinhard Braun, and Walter Niedermayr.
