NADA New York 2015

Pier 36 at Basketball City, New York

NADA New York 2015 will take place May 14-17, at Basketball City, located at 299 South Street on the East River.

NADA’s non profit model has always been a flexible and adaptable one, which continues to respond to the needs of its exhibitors and the art world at large by creatively reinventing the experience and presentation of art in a fair environment. NADA New York is dedicated to showcasing new art, and to celebrating the rising talents from around the globe.

NADA Presents

A series of performances, conversations, and events, NADA Presents is host to interdisciplinary programming from exhibitors, artists, and cultural partners.

Events will be held at the newly designed stage and throughout the fair.

NADA x PAOM
NADA x PAOM NADA x PAOM is an artist-designed, limited edition line of clothing and objects featuring artwork by three contemporary artists, each represented by NADA galleries. The featured artists for NADA New York 2015 are Bjorn Copeland and Daniel Heidkamp. The pieces, each an edition of 50, will be available to purchase at the NADA Shop and online at printallover.me

Print All Over Me is an online platform for real world collaboration and creation. It provides the tools that allow anyone to create, share, own, and produce their designs by uploading artwork that can be applied to seasonal collections of clothing and objects. Print All Over Me is currently in residence at NEW INC at the New Museum, the first museum-led incubator program supporting creative practitioners in art, technology, and design.

A+WS
At NADA, Aeromoto and Wendy’s Subway will present A+WS, a collaboratively curated library and reading room​ designed by Tyler Polich and Hannah Wilentz​, with a specific focus on artist books, periodicals, and exhibition catalogues by Latin American publishers. In developing subject- or action-specific, idiosyncratic book pairings, A+WS reflects the resonances from library to library and from book to book, and envisions the library as a space for social and artistic practice. To extend the library’s activity as a space for engagement and dialogue, A+WS has invited artists, writers, publishers, organizers, and readers based in Mexico City, New York, and elsewhere, to contribute interventions and responses to the library collection. Wendy’s Subway is a 24-hour non-profit library and workspace located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Aeromoto is a public lending library in Mexico City.

Eye in the Sky Hold ‘Em
A collaboration between Melissa Brown and Where, Eyes in the Sky Hold ‘Em is an off-site, private poker lounge that will operate during NADA NY. Invited artists will wager original artworks in winner-take-all rounds of Texas Hold ‘Em. A live feed of the four-game tournament will be visible throughout the fair on a closed circuit television system installed on specially designed kiosks, which double as phone charging stations.

The closed circuit televisions system inverts the traditional casino security camera: Instead of ensuring fair play, viewers at the fair can see the players’ hands. And there’s a twist – each player will have a cellphone whose number will also be visible during the games. At any time viewers can text in tips, influencing play as anonymous spies and accomplices. The winner of each round leaves the table with an art collection created through both chance and skill.

The Poetic Act: #NADAdrift
Course participants from BHQFU’s The Poetic Act will staging a language intervention throughout all weekend throughout the fair, writing their way through the fair’s landscape by populating the hashtag #NADAdrift on Twitter and Instagram. The result will be a long-form, collectively-authored, digital poem. All are invited to contribute.

BHQFU is New York City’s freest art school. We are a completely tuition-free learning experiment where artists work together to manifest creative, productive, resistant, useless, and demanding interactions between art and the world. BHQFU offers dozens of classes annually, stages free public programming year-round, and operates two cost-free artist studio residency programs.

Vielen Dank♥ für die Blumen
A medley of song introductions from cartoons and musicals sung in the mother tongue of naturalized immigrants, foreign visa holders, and expatriates currently living in New York and its five boroughs. Directed by Hayley A. Silverman, starring Doktor, Mirabelle, and Rust and featuring the voices of Milena Pfeiler (German), Sharon Lam (Malay), Ross Unger (Russian), Ruba (Arabic), Jess Rowboat (Hindi), and more. Presented by Bodega.

Artadia Prize
Partnering for the 6th season, Artadia and NADA will present an exceptional artist exhibiting work at NADA New York with the $4,000 unrestricted Artadia NADA Award.

The Award recipient will be chosen by a jury of two renowned curators on the opening day of the fair, Thursday, May 14th. The Artadia NADA Awardee and jurors will be announced Friday, May 15th.

The selected artist will receive all lifetime benefits of the Artadia Awards program, including access to Artadia’s national network and the option to participate in Artadia’s ongoing programs, exhibitions, New York Residency and professional services. Previous Artadia NADA awardees include Margaret Lee (2012 Miami), Meg Cranston (2013 New York), Ryan Foerster (2013 Miami), What Pipeline (2014 New York), and Sergei Tcherepnin (2014 Miami).
