LOOP Fair, 4–6 June, will present 45 galleries featuring solo projects by contemporary video artists. This prudent selection has been undertaken by the committee, made up of collectors Isabelle Lemaître, Josée & Marc Gensollen, Haro Cumbusyan and Renée Drake, and chaired by Jean-Conrad Lemaître. Many of these showings will be world premieres from artists such as Janet Biggs, Fabien Charuau, Hoël Duret, Bertrand Lamarche, Claudia Larcher, Jacco Olivier, João Onofre, Katarzyna Kozyra, Ulrich Polster, Dominik Stauch, Isabel Rocamora, Eulàlia Valldosera, Puck Verkade and Richard T. Walker.
Running in parallel to the Fair, LOOP Studies will host an extensive programme of discussions and prívate professional meetings. The three-day programme of the panels will be focusing on “Beyond Objects? A debate on Engaged Attitudes towards Collecting,” and will count on the participation of Erika Balsom, Haro Cumbusyan, Benjamin Cook, Elizabeth Dee, Henry Lydiate, Jean-Conrad and Isabelle Lemaître, Angel and Clara Nieto, Sandra Terdjman, Miguel Rios, Alain Servais and Lori Zippay, among others. Its main objective will be to exhaustively examine committed strategies of collecting, their development over the last four decades, and to achieve an insightful overview of the peculiarity of the Video Art market. To follow one of the session, visual artist and Academy-Award® winner Pierre Bismuth will lead a case study on his last project Where is Rocky II?. Additionally in the context of the professional meetings, Anne-Laure Chamboissier, Menene Gras, Carles Guerra, Enric Enrich, Vanina Hofman and Lluís Nacenta will also lead a series of closed door debates that will encourage reflection upon LOOP 2015′s two driving themes: What about Collecting Video Art? and Beyond the Image: Sound. For this occasion, the French specialist Anne-Laure Chamboissier, will curate a sound intervention by artist Emmanuel Lagarrigue.
Among this year’s new additions to LOOP Barcelona 2015 is the launch of the first edition of the Discovery Award, with the support of Estrella Damm. The purpose of the award is to stimulate the production of videos and films by international artists through an open call to the artistic community. The winner of the Discovery Award, that offers a prize of 5.000 euros, will be announced on 5 June and there will also be an exhibition of the ten finalist pieces.
LOOP Barcelona is not only a forum for professionals, but it also strives to engage the audiences. For this reason, between 28 May and 6 June, diverse city spaces will welcome video exhibitions organized within the framework of LOOP Festival. Amongst this wide range of venues around the city, LOOP Festival will welcome collections and collectors of international reference, such as Sam Art Projects (France), collection Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Italy) and Leal Rios (Portugal), and will present the leading video collectors from Spain in the exhibition Video-regime, Collectors in the Audiovisual Era, a project curated by Carles Guerra. At the same time the Festival will also showcase a new piece by artist Jordi Colomer, winner of the first edition of the award for video creation recently launched by Xarxa de Centres i Espais d’Arts Visuals de Catalunya, Arts Santa Mònica, and LOOP Barcelona, and that also counts on the support of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.
