Painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, installation, video, performance – all those genres are not from yesterday. How artists find their own formal language, in times, in which the concept of art extensively extends ? Are emerging trends already identifiable ?

The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden and the Gesellschaft der Freunde junger Kunst want to investigate this question together. With the exhibition „Übermorgenkünstler“, they provide a platform for the youngest art scene in the border triangle and actively support their networking.

Students and graduates of state colleges of art in Basel, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Mainz, Mulhouse-Strasbourg, Saarbrücken und Stuttgart are invited to present their work in the exhibition halls of the Kunsthalle. These young artists will be brought in Baden-Baden, a city that doesn't have its own art school. From more than 430 candidates, 36 artists convinced with their propositions the jury, composed of Anja Casser (Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe), Chus Martinez (HGK Basel), Petra von Olschowski (SABK Stuttgart), Johan Holten (Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden) and Johannes Hüppi (Gesellschaft der Freunde junger Kunst).

The exhibition expands with site-specific interventions to Lichtentaler Allee. At the same time, the Gesellschaft der Freunde junger Kunst traces the root of young artists in the old steam-baths, in which works of the related academics professors are presented. Once again it gets more clear, how both institutions since their foundations feel involved to promote the youngest trends of current art. Some of the work of these creators are not to see in institutional exhibition as „after-tomorrow“ but already as today.
