Since its foundation in 1974, Kilkenny Arts Festival has brought many of the world's finest musicians, performers, writers and artists to the heart of Ireland's medieval city each August. Over ten days, the city's historic churches, castle, courtyards, townhouses and gardens offer a magical setting for magical performances and up-close artistic encounters. The full programme of events is now on sale for our 42nd Festival, which runs from 7-16 August 2015. Come and experience DruidShakespeare, an epic theatrical event which the Guardian has called 'exhilarating, extraordinary a staggering venture'; Eternal Harmony: The Music of JS Bach, a unique series of 18 concerts exploring the great composer's timeless music; the Marble City Sessions, a series of musical meetings and unique collaborations hosted and co-curated by the great Martin Hayes; legendary performers such as Sir Andras Schiff, Jordi Savall, Les Arts Florissants, William Christie, Toumani Diabate and Amjad Ali Khan; one of the world's finest writers, Robert Pinsky, as poet in residence; visual artist in residence Mick O'Dea painting and sketching A Festival Portrait of artists, scenes and performances throughout the ten days, and much more.
