Sschh…Schubert combines music, dance, visual arts and drama; local musicians, actors and dancers will perform Schubert's musical biography as an unconventional introduction to classical music. Audience will experience a series of fantastical events that bring them through a magical painting into the 19th century Europe. An extraordinary encounter with the friends and music of Franz Schubert.
In a show about Schubert, the “King of Songs”, one surely cannot neglect his vast output of Lieder. This production will make use of this musical form, but it will not feature any singing. The lieder are instead rearranged for a flute-cello-piano trio, while live actors and dancers will take up the storytelling role of the lyrics. With the new arrangement, the music director endeavors to maintain the compactness and theatricality of the musical form, taking advantage of the tunefulness of the form as an accessible gateway for audiences who may not usually listen to classical music.
The performance in the second session will be followed by a talk on music and creative education in Hong Kong featuring speakers including Ms. Florence Hui Hiu-fai, Under Secretary for Home Affairs, HKSAR.
