Outside of Life. Spending time and developing relationships with his subjects has enabled Hunter to take truly compassionate and honest pictures of this country's hidden cultures. Hunter's last series documented the rural people of the Wallowa Valley in northeast Oregon. For his current project he broadened his scope and traveled the country making classic black and white portraits of Americans living outside of the mainstream: Maximum security prisoners at Corcoran State Prison in California; the low riders of Espanola, New Mexico; Hell's Angels from upstate New York; and the Bloods from Saint Louis.
