STUCK ON YOU: NEW WORK
June 3 - July 3, 2004

Bay Area conceptual artist, Charles Linder, opens an exhibition of new work on Thursday, June 3, at Brian Gross Fine Art, 49 Geary Street. A painter, sculptor, and multi-media artist, Linder presents a series of new sculptures, poured epoxy resin paintings, and a 6 x 12 foot photomural. There will be a reception for the artist from 5:30-7:30pm.

In this newest series, Linder focuses on the idea of appropriation, utilizing found objects to create pieces, which are visually and spatially stimulating. The title of the exhibition, 'Stuck on You', refers to the artist's continued interest in the act of constantly adding layers of imagery in two and three-dimensional work.

At the center of this exhibition is a photomural, entitled You Bug Me (2004), of a VW bug that has been covered in Post-it notes. The glossy surface of vibrant and patterned colors, pinned directly to the wall, references Linder's obsession with billboard images. You Bug Me relates to Linder's epoxy resin paintings comprised of hundreds of colored dots, suspended in resin, creating three dimensional surfaces that extend beyond the wall and blur the line between sculpture and painting. Included in this exhibition are paintings ranging in color from vibrant blue to deep hued red, and black and gold. In Lazuli Lap Pool (2004), a brilliantly patterned blue painting, vertical lines divide the piece creating the visual illusion of recession and addition typical of Linder's current painting.

Charles Linder, born in 1967 in Pittsburgh, PA, received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and his MFA from the University of California, Berkeley. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in the Bay Area and recently exhibited his work in Berlin, Germany and Lucerne, Switzerland. Well-known in the local community, Linder is the founder of two alternative art spaces, Refusalon and Linc Real Art. This is his sixth solo exhibition with Brian Gross Fine Art.
