In 2003, definitively provisional transformed Whitechapel Project Space in London into an open access library which gathered work by more than 100 selected artists, writers, critics and curators, examining issues related to reflecting, archiving and documenting in and of creative processes. We are proud to announce that this unique library will reopen at Appendiks, Copenhagen. The gallery space will be converted into a reading room where the users are invited not only to touch, look through and read the submissions, they are also encouraged to refile the material in a way that makes sense to them, that is, subjectively making the seemingly objective library make sense.

definitively provisional acts as a democratic
structure of gathering material without making final
categories of the interconnections of its material. It
is less concerned with completion; instead, its focus
and strength is the productive dramatization of the
idea of the collecting individual. As such the library
can equally address and be addressed as mode of
investigation the implications of duration, selection
and presentation that is intrinsic to library
(artistic? curatorial? critical?) practices.
definitively provisional is curated by Cecilia
Canziani (Italy) and Kristine Haugaard Nielsen
(Denmark).
Opening 3 June 2004 18:00 – 21:00hrs
