Studio Dieci, Vercelli

comunicato stampa

European Exhibitions: April to October, 2000.
From April to October, 2000, North Vancouver artist Gregg Simpson will be showing several series of recent paintings and drawings in four solo exhibitions in Europe?three in Italy and one in France. While Simpson has shown throughout Europe in over twenty group exhibitions since 1973, these shows will be his first solo ventures there, signalling an exciting new direction in his career.

April 15th to April 21st
Studio 10 in Vercelli, Italy (near Milan)
Entitled Phantoms of Light, Simpson?s first solo exhibition in Europe will consist of digital art, video and a selection of paintings and pastels. The artist?s work has been featured in a number of group exhibitions and publications in Italy since the late 1970?s.

May 1st to May 31st
Fortezza, Montalcino, Italy (near Siena)
The next exhibition, 30 large canvases and drawings from the Cloisonnist Series is entitled A New Arcadia, will be installed on the two floors of the medieval Fortezza, a castle built in 1361 and the main attraction of the Tuscan town of Montalcino.

August 27th to September 5th
Seillans, France (near Cannes)
Simpson will next be exhibiting a retrospective of frottages and charcoal drawings at the Salle d'Exhibitions. At the beginning of his career, Simpson was inspired by the work of pioneer surrealist Max Ernst. Seillans is the village where Max Ernst and his wife, artist Dorothea Tanning spent the last decade of Ernst's life. The opportunity to exhibit next to the Ernst-Tanning archive in the Espace Waldberg, is especially significant for the artist.

Fall, 2000 (date to be confirmed)
Prato, Italy (near Florence)
Gregg Simpson will be showing a large number of paintings and drawings at the
Gallery Assimo, which is run by a collective of Italian artists. In 2001, these artists will be invited to show in Vancouver.
