1950-1980-2000. The title of the exhibition comprises the Swedish and the Slovene words for 'print', and summarises the theme of the two-part exhibition: Grafik presents a selection of contemporary Swedish prints produced from 1980 to 2000, while Grafika presents a selection of graphic art by Slovene artists produced between 1950 and 1980. Common to both parts of the exhibition is their blending of classical techniques with contemporary graphic art experiments.

The International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana
The exhibition has been organised by the International Centre of Graphic
Arts in Ljubljana and the Swedish Institute in Stockholm to coincide with
the visit of Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia to Slovenia.
The title of the exhibition comprises the Swedish and the Slovene words for
'print', and summarises the theme of the two-part exhibition: Grafik
presents a selection of contemporary Swedish prints produced from 1980 to
2000, while Grafika presents a selection of graphic art by Slovene artists
produced between 1950 and 1980. Common to both parts of the exhibition is
their blending of classical techniques with contemporary graphic art
experiments. The exhibition further includes a video documentary about the
involvement of King Carl XVI Gustaf and his daughter Victoria in
print-making and art collection. The Swedish royal couple will also be
visiting the exhibition.
The Swedish selection presents works by the following artists: Asa
Andersson, Hakan Berg, Elina Druker, Ulla Fries, Peder Josefsson, Fredrik
Lindqvist, Lina Nordenström, Lars Nyberg, Helmtrud Nyström, Vera Ohlsson,
Philip von Schantz, Asa Stjerna, Per Gunnar Thelander, Jukka Vänttinen and
Brita Weglin. The curators of this part of the exhibition are Karl Haskel
and Mikael Kihlman. In the folder that accompanies the Swedish part of the
exhibition, they present the works they have chosen and the invidiual
artists in closer detail. The majority of the participating artists are
represented in King Carl XVI Gustaf's private collection at the Stockholm
Royal Palace, which is one of the largest of its kind in the country.
The Slovene selection comprises works by the following artists: Jože Ciuha,
Riko Debenjak, Å tefan Galič, Danilo Jejčič, Boris Jesih, Lojze Logar,
Vladimir Makuc and Lojze Spacal. These artists are among the most important
creators of graphic art in Slovenia. The bulk of the works presented here
were donated by the artists, or by their heirs, to the International Centre
of Graphic Arts, while others were purchased with the financial assistance
of the Municipality of Ljubljana. The exhibited works were selected by
Lilijana Stepančič, director of the International Graphic Art Centre.
The exhibition will be open from Wednesday, 23 June to 29 August 2004, in
the International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana.
