'The Return of Space'
The preparatory drawings created by George Steinmann (born 1950 in Berne, lives and works in Berne) for his restoration project of the Kunsthalle in Tallinn, Estonia, and entitled 'The Return of Space', will be shown for the first time in Berne. The drawings are made from construction plans and worked over with spring-water extracts and linseed oil. In the Kunsthalle in Tallinn, Steinmann has transformed the space of the museum into both an artwork and a think-tank. This 'mental sculpture' has had a decisive influence on the Estonian art scene. Indeed, thanks to this project, one of the major cultural centres of the country has been 'returned' to life, and is now a part of the international contemporary art scene.
