Public > is devoted to the spread of contemporary arts.
In January 1999, a group of seven people, mainly artists, created an alternative space in a Parisian cultural background lacking of lively and experimental projects.
In October 2001, they were replaced by a new team of three people. Since then, Émilie Renard, Aurélie Voltz and Giovanna Zapperi, all curators, have been taking over the programmes with many collaborations of artists and independent curators.
Public > is a laboratory which puts the emphasis on experimentation and risk taking, with an approach aimed at highlighting the creative process rather than the final object. Programming is focused on the meeting between different ways of approaching artistic creation, and acts at the very outside margins of the various disciplines.
The action of Public > is somewhere between visual arts, live shows, literature and music, whilst also offering other types of "entertainment".
Programming is divided between events lasting several days or weeks and focusing on one question, and more occasional or lightweight interventions in different and unusual forms.
Public > also operates as a production structure, offering indoor and outdoor events. Public > develops links with similar structures in France and abroad to construct joint projects. Public > also occasionally offers its help to young stewards for specific projects as a way of stretching our curiosity.
