An exhibition of new work to mark MK-G’s 5th birthday, including a commission for the building exterior
MK-G will be 5 years old this October. Despite its relatively short life history, MK-G is already highly regarded within the national and international network of independent contemporary art galleries. Its challenging and often uncompromising programme of contemporary art has attracted extensive press and media coverage. Described recently by the Daily Telegraph’s art critic as “the most excellent Milton Keynes Galleryâ€, together with our neighbour MK Theatre we provide a cultural focus for the city, and are one of the most successful National Lottery Funded projects in the UK, so we want to celebrate this fact.
To mark the occasion MK-G is presenting an exhibition of new work by Michael Craig-Martin, an artist of huge critical stature and influence. It will be his most comprehensive exhibition in a British public gallery for almost ten years and includes a striking commission for the building exterior. Craig-Martin’s most ambitious project to date involves the complete transformation of MK-G into a painted artwork.
