MB Fine Art Los Angeles, in association with the Bonni Benrubi Gallery of
New York, presents Light: Photography from Linda McCartney to Massimo Vitali
from November 6 through December 8, 2004. This group exhibition features
more than fifty works of art exploring the fundamental obsession of the
medium: light.
Light considers the role the element plays in transforming, and often
manipulating, our perception of the ordinary and the sublime. Boundaries of
the natural world are examined in prints ranging from intimate to
large-scale with subject matter from still life to group scenes to
experimental photography. Each image offers a unique interpretation of the
theme by contemporary artists.
The exhibition includes Linda McCartney¹s subtle landscapes of the English
countryside. These stunning platinum prints invite viewers to dream and rest
in the peacefulness of the setting and serve to remind all of the fragility
of the earth¹s natural resources. By contrast, Massimo Vitali¹s densely
populated ³crowdscapes² lead the eye to wander through the myriad
personalities of their inhabitants. And though the images are typically from
a birds-eye-view, they often highlight a single person¹s captured movement
or an ominous stare. Also included in the exhibition are works by David
Fokos, Dana Harper, Sally Mann, Judith McMillan, Peter Jones and others.
Light: Photography from Linda McCartney to Massimo Vitali opens on November
6 at MB Fine Art with an opening reception from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The
