The Return of the Fishermen to Paradise is a series of paintings based on a newspaer photograph, which inspired Seo to deal with the conflict of reality versus her dreams. She believes our fast paced world needs a counter-balance that the enormous speed of our time will catch up with us.
The Return of The Fishermen to Paradise
Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to announce The
Return of the Fishermento Paradise, the first solo exhibition in the United
States by SouthKorean Artist SEO. A graduate of the Berlin Academy, SEO
studied under George Baselitz as a master student. As a result of her
first exhibition in 2003 she has become one of Germanys most widely
received artists and has been praised by major newspapers and art
critics. Combining Asian influences with her impressions of Europe, SEO
offers the viewer a unique and poetic experience. The surfaces of
herpaintings are quite complex being built up through the application
of multiple layers of drawing, painting and collage. The Return of the Fishermen
to Paradiseis a series of paintings basedon a newspaer photograph, which
inspired SEO to deal with the conflict of reality versus her dreams. She
believes our fast paced world needs a counter-balance, that the enormous
speed of our time will catch up with us and that humanity will once again
look to the values of the past. Not because all things of importance tend
torepeat themselves, but because there can be no other solution. Formy inner
balance Ineed this vision of a new romantic future. SEO has exhibited in
Europe and Asia. Her work is included inpermanent collections in the Museum
of Modern Art, New York, alongwith a number of other European and Asian
Museums. She has also participated in the Gwangju Biennial, one of the most
important exhibitions in East Asia.
