In 1931 the rough draft of his book 'Ci-Contre' ('contra') with 110 original photographs was developed. The project, however, could not be completed owing to the events of 1933, when Moi Ver went to live in exile in Palestine. On the occasion of the 100th birthday of the artist, 'Ci-Contre' will be presented for the first time publicly. Parallel to this, the book will be published in the version as originally conceived by Moi Ver – with a more than 70 year delay.
Ci-Contre, 1931
The Lithuanian-Jewish artist Moï Ver (1904-1995), student during the 1920’s at the Bauhaus in Dessau and friend of the constructivist Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, settled in Paris in 1928. In thrilling and breathtakingly new photography he created a rhythmically-infused kaleidoscope of the modern metropolis. In 1931 his photographic book “Paris†was published and met with enormous success. In the same year the rough draft of his book “Ci-Contre†(“contraâ€) with 110 original photographs was developed. The project, however, could not be completed owing to the events of 1933, when Moï Ver went to live in exile in Palestine.
