An alternative to the typical art fair

The mission of -scope is to demystify the buying process of contemporary art while challenging our static views of the art world. -scope accomplishes this by producing international art fairs of cutting-edge art and emerging culture.

The fairs bring together up-and-coming dealers, curators and artists in a relaxed atmosphere. In this way, -scope makes itself an invaluable resource for established and burgeoning collectors as well as museums, corporate curators and the general public.

-scope further distinguishes itself as an alternative to the typical art fair by requiring each gallery to devote 80% of its art to one artist. This allows the viewer to have a personal dialog with the artist.

-scope also devotes a portion of its program to educational forums and new media which includes moderated panel discussions and video and film screenings. Panel discussions in the past have touched on such relevant topics as Building Unique Collections and The Culture Economy. Additional events include receptions with local museums, performances and music programs.

Performance-scope has been developed as part of -scope’s overall goal of presenting cutting-edge art and emerging culture. Curated by Ethan Cohen, Susan Caraballo and Natalie Kovacs, which will be scheduled throughout -scopeMiami.

· Inflatable Bop Bags by Bill Berry/Tatar Gallery allows one to feel free to punch the artist in the face if they find the explanation of the exhibition pretentious.

· Cream by Mark Koven incorporates 3-D photography and a parked ice cream cart emitting eerie sounds from which a vender indifferently dispenses product.

· i:MOVE by Nell Breyer is an interactive video performance.

· IPO by Octavio Campos, Dinroah de Jesus Rodriguez and Michelle Weinberg is about how intellectual property relates to art and performance.

· Miami Wrap by Avelino Sala will be interventions using tape.

· Nomad Territory by Maria-Jose Arjona is about the common place we all exist in.

· Park your Art is the Hi-performance tailgate party in the design district where craziness will be bubbling from the doors of a Winnebago, including file cabinet dancers, balloon twisters, a staring contest and video projection.

· Power to the People a large (30' x 10') interactive billboard on Collins Avenue Hotel where passerby’s can flip switches to create a whole slew of monumental words.

· Scavenger Hunt by Hames/Levack is a game sourcing from the art world.

· SIGHTlines by Bruno Billio are a weaving of natural and synthetic lumens with an emphasis on the kinetic.

· SOLO with File CABINET by Marlee Cargill is a spontaneous dance invasion employing irony and the public.

· Staremaster by Sean Linezo is a staring contest.

· Upwake by Natasha Tsakos is a humane and tragic comedy following Zero, a toon character, through our Orwellian world.

and

· Hand Jobs by Lilah Freedland on the roof…
