Controversially but due to unprecedented demands and for Christmas, Mark
McGowan is to repeat his extra ordinary performance of eating a fox. The
performance is to start at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th December 2004, in
The Fitting Shop, Trinty Buoy Wharf, 64 Orchard Place, London E14, and
the fox is to be served along with potatoes and brussel sprouts.
ARTIST EATS FOX II is part of a group show called Advent.
The reaction to the first event has received a mixed reception and some
threatening as well as supportive emails have been sent to McGowan.
McGowan says
'i have been commenting on societies misplaced priorities, I think that
some people have failed to see my point, I am not for or against fox
hunting, in fact I am incredulous at the thought that so many people
support fox hunting and so many people are against fox hunting up to a
million on each side have marched this year, when we have so many people
suffering through out the world with hardly anyone bothering to get
emotional. I made a reference to the crackheads who live on my estate
and why no one marches for them instead of the foxes and people said
that they had a choice while the fox never. Little do they know that
crackheads suffer from the disease of addiction and that they are likely
to die or kill and rob without help or treatment for their illness. We
live in a society where the crackhead who sits under the cashpoint
machine is reduced to an inaminate object, sculpture while unemotive
people withdraw money for a night out on pizza and picturehouse.'
