Short film tour through 22 cities in six countries
From January through April 2005, Oberhausen will once again send six film
programmes on tour through Europe as part of the "Oberhausen on Tour 2005"
project. 22 cities in six European countries will present mini short film
festivals with new shorts, music videos, and treasures from the Oberhausen
archives.
The tour will officially start on January 15, 2005 at Hamburg's Metropolis
theatre with highlights from Oberhausen's international competitions in
2003 and 2004 and a big opening party. The event will be organised in
co-operation with the AG Kurzfilm (Short Film Partnership), the
Kurzfilmagentur Hamburg, and the Metropolis theatre. A New Year's eve
preview will be available on December 31, 2004 in Freiburg. In June,
audiences in France will be able to enjoy the last special showing in
Lille. The festival has put together six programmes that have been
specially adapted to meet the needs of this type of tour. For instance, all
the films either have no dialogue, were shot in English, or have English
subtitles to make them understandable for international audiences.
This year, theatres in Paris, Bern, Amsterdam, Antwerpen, and of course
numerous German cities will participate. Scotland has been added to the
tour this year, with two locations in Glasgow. "We're happy not only that
we were able to acquire new venues, but also that so many of our partners
from the first Oberhausen on Tour project are participating again this
year," explained the festival's director, Lars Henrik Gass. In the future,
Oberhausen plans to have the tour every two years.

Programme: Best of.. German Competition
The programmes
Two programmes consist of films from the previous two year's international
competitions. This includes prize winners such as the British documentary
Lift by Marc Isaacs and the immensely popular I'm a Boyband by Benny
Nemerofsky Ramsay. The 2004 German competition provides a programme that
not only showcases award-winning short films such as Corinna Schnitt's
Living a Beautiful Life, but also includes one of the winners of the 2004
German Short Film Award, Michel Kloefkorn's 3,48 Euro/Min.
The MuVi programme will travel with all 12 candidates for the 2004 MuVi
prize. "pop and politics 50 years of the Short Film Festival Oberhausen"
will deliberately not present a cross-section from the retrospective
programme for the 50th festival, but rather take a different look at the
history of the festival since the 1960's with classics such as Walerian
Borowczyk's Les Jeux des anges from 1964 and discoveries such as
Jean-Pierre Jeunet's short Foutaises from 1989, shown in Oberhausen long
before the release of Amélie. â€Media Art†is the name of a programme
including works from Knut Asdam, Valerie Jouve and Matthias Mueller that
bridge the gap between the short film and media art.
