The Pan American Art Gallery presents an exhibition of works by Joe Ramiro Garcia and Roberto Diago opening Friday, Jan. 21 6-9 p.m.
Roberto Diago is one of the most outspoken and talented artists from Havana. In his work he utilizes non-traditional materials such as sheet metal, charred wood and jute coffee bags to address such compelling issues as racism, spirituality, despair and hope in contemporary Cuba. Joe Ramiro Garcia, originally from Houston and now based in Santa Fe, is a talented young painter who brings humor and irony to canvas with bright colors and collage compositions. Joe uses the canvas to tell provocative stories, with bits of actual letters incorporated into his compositions.
Specializing in art from the Americas, the Pan American Art Gallery features avant-garde and contemporary works, as well as folk art, photography, sculpture and ceramics. The gallery carries one of the world's largest collections of Cuban, Haitian and Jamaican art.
