RESOLUTIONS 05, a two-day festival of film, video, and sound selected from over 150 entries of original work from local, regional, and international artists, will kick off our 2005 media arts program by focusing on original media and performance work that highlights the experimental and resolutely unique.
Although Hallwalls’ new building is still under renovation, the Market Arcade Film and Arts Centre has kindly agreed to have us host the RESOLUTIONS screenings at their cinema. Following Saturday’s screening there will be a party at Soundlab (whom we also thank for their generosity), featuring sound and music performances by local area artists, organized by JT Rinker. Members of the Real Dream Cabaret as well as various visiting artists will be present on both nights.
Friday night’s program at MAFAC, entitled FROM ORIGINS TO POINT B, will feature the work of local artists Dorothea Braemer and Akil Kirlew, with additional videos and films by Marc Comes (Germany), Tony Gault (New York), Denise Kaufman (Iowa), Songyi Kim (New York), Gail Mentlik (Toronto), Vanessa Renwick (Portland), and Bernie Roddy (Texas, formerly of Buffalo).
THE CINEMATIC CONDITIONING MACHINE will be screened on Saturday evening at MAFAC, and highlights the work of Sandra Bermudez (New York), Gregg Biermann (New Jersey), David Brown (Colorado), Daniel Cockburn (Toronto), Sandra Gibson (New York), Songyi Kim (New York), Natasha Spencer (Chicago), Ann Steuernagel (Massachusetts), and Ian Toews (Toronto).
