Passing and Past Time

comunicato stampa

The exhibition in K21 is Darren Almond's first museum exhibition in Germany and, with about 15 works and series, provides an overview of his oeuvre from the past eight years. Alongside several groups of ‘Full Moon Photographs' (long exposure photographs taken in the open air), kinetic sculptures will be displayed, along with clocks and fans, a complete bus stop and new video films. The main themes of the British artist Darren Almond, born in 1971, are time and geography. In drawings, sculptures, photographs and films, he traces the phenomena of passing and past time. He is interested both in the natural and poetic dimensions of time and its socio-historical dimensions.

His investigations often take him to remote parts of the world such as the Arctic and the Antarctic. These journeys have produced two films and two series of photographs which are being shown in K21 for the first time.

Almond's engagements with time, however, also take him to places that have previously been captured in images by artists such as William Turner or Caspar David Friedrich.
