The Invisible Insurrection of a Million Minds

Twenty proposals for imagining the future. The exhibition is intended as a peregrination that takes in various artist experiments that explore the relationship between artistic practice and the social space. Art as practice is a form of collective pedagogy. It explores the past and present promises of emancipation and puts forward sophisticated ways of thinking about the life of the group, its dreams and its social aspirations. Work by almost 20 artists from different generational and national backgrounds, a packed programme of seminars, talks and debates.
Twenty proposals for imagining the future
The intriguing title of this exhibition is taken from a profound and polemical essay by the Scottish writer Alexander Trocchi published in Internationale Situationiste in January 1963. The exhibition, produced expressly for rekalde, has been curated by Lars Bang Larsen (the Danish art critic and curator), Carles Guerra (an artist and curator now living and working in Barcelona) and Chus MartÃnez, and is intended as a peregrination that takes in various artist experiments that explore the relationship between artistic practice and the social space. Art as practice is a form of collective pedagogy. It explores the past and present promises of emancipation and puts forward sophisticated ways of thinking about the life of the group, its dreams and its social aspirations.
Work by almost 20 artists from different generational and national backgrounds is shown in the exhibition, which also includes a packed programme of seminars, talks and debates. The publication put together to accompany the exhibition contains numerous pieces written by the artists, as well as Alexander Trocchi's essay, translated into Spanish, and articles by the curators, the American writer and activist Brian Holmes, now living in Paris, and Christoph Menke, the German philosopher whose best known publication is The Sovereignty of Art: Aesthetic Negativity in Adorno and Derrida (MIT Press, 1998).
The Invisible Insurrection of a Million Minds includes works by Christian Andersson, Art and Language, Fikret Atay, Jacques-Louis David visto por Dominique Lora, Luca Frei, Anita Fricek, Peter Friedl, El Lissitzky, Kasimir Maliévich, Begoña Muñoz, Deimantas Narkevicius, Palle Nielsen, Nils Norman, Adrian Piper, Tere Recarens, Xabier Salaberria, Jonas Maria Schul, Bruno Serralongue, Solmaz Shahbazi and Tommy Støckel.
The exhibition includes a programme of talks and seminars:
March 17 at 7.00pm: Charles Esche, director of Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven, Amsterdam) and co-curator of the ninth edition of the Istanbul Biennial.
April 12 at 7.00pm: Bruno Serralongue and Solmaz Shahbazi
April 19 at 7.00pm: Palle Nielsen and Anita Fricek
May 3 at 7.00pm: Brian Holmes
This exhibition has received economical support from the Danish Arts Agency and the Institut Français in Bilbao.
