New Paintings

San Francisco artist, Donald Feasel, opens an exhibition of recent paintings organized by Brian Gross Fine Art, in the lobby gallery at One Post Street, San Francisco, on Monday, March 28, 2005. Known for his painterly abstractions, Feasel continues to experiment with pouring and manipulating paint on unprimed canvas on a large scale.

In his fifth exhibition with Brian Gross Fine Art, Feasel installs four striking canvases that evoke natural, organic shapes. He deftly balances accumulation and dispersion of thinly applied paint, which results in dramatic and spontaneous compositions. Feasel juxtaposes explosive color in tones of black, brown, green, blue, and orange with raw, unprimed canvas that heightens the dynamic interplay between foreground and background. The almost translucent vaporous tendrils of Recomar and bursting green nebulous of Vado make an interesting comparison with the volatile, fractured Zyklus, and the splattered smokiness of Pendant.

Donald Feasel is an accomplished Bay Area painter whose abstract oil paintings have generated critical acclaim over the years. He received his BA from UCLA in 1976 and studied with Elmer Bischoff at the University of California at Berkeley where he received his MFA in 1984. His work has been included in numerous Bay Area exhibitions, and he is represented in the collection of the Di Rosa Art and Nature Preserve in Napa. The exhibition continues through June 17, 2005.
