Kate Baillon-Case of Joie Lassiter Gallery
Wall Reliefs. A series of rubbings derived from childhood memories. The artist explores issues of time, memory, and history using a process by which he builds up of layers of paint on the surface of his canvas or paper and subsequently sands back through the layers to expose shapes and colors.
Wall Reliefs
This exhibition opens publicly during the gallery crawl Friday April 1st from 6 – 9 pm and will run through the month of April at the Joie Lassiter Gallery on the first floor of the Odell Building at 525 North Tryon Street, Charlotte.
The works in this exhibition come from two bodies of work; a series of rubbings derived from childhood memories and a series created during a residency at the Montana Artists Refuge. In both series, Cassidy explores issues of time, memory, and history using a process by which he builds up of layers of paint on the surface of his canvas or paper and subsequently sands back through the layers to expose shapes and colors, revealing layers of history withheld in the depth of the two dimensional surface and realizing the metaphoric implications of this process.
