Joie Lassiter Gallery presents "White" featuring Lynn Boggess, Shaun
Cassidy, Ron Boehmer, and Marek Ranis. The show will open Friday, December
7th, 2007 6-9pm and run through January 26th, 2008. Please join us for the

Joie Lassiter Gallery presents their December show, "White" opening Friday
December 7th. "White" extends the viewer's consciousness of landscape,
exploring conceptual applications of a winter landscape by combining the
work of diverse artists including Lynn Boggess, Shaun Cassidy, Ron Boehmer,
and Marek Ranis. This aesthetically inventive grouping provides an
opportunity to contemplate landscape from novel perspectives.
The snowy landscape inspires the subdued palette of each artist which is
dominated by the color white. Lynn Boggess' work brings a viewer into nature
in its pure, raw beauty. His own connection with the natural world along
with his impressive skill and exceptional technique translate into a true
rendering of the spirit of the snow-filled landscape.
Approaching "White" from a different perspective is the work of Shaun
Cassidy. Cassidy expresses a history of activity and nostalgia with his
acrylic rubbings. The forests of Montana provide the sticks responsible for
the evocative colored lines that appear when his white canvas is sanded. In
a manner different from Boggess, these works suggest emotional memories of
the winter landscape.
Ron Boehmer's work makes a direct statement about the subject, the snowy
landscape, and the act and action of painting itself. He explores
choreographed, yet spontaneous, brushwork that conveys the process of
painting as expression. He provides a view of snow that is both literal and
abstract at the same time.
The white tones that appear in the work of Marek Ranis carry grave meaning.
White melts into a dark liquid in his panoramic views of a disappearing
landscape, ice shelves, glaciers and icebergs, due to global warming. These
digital photographs record the disquieting collapse of natural ice that
conveys Ranis' personal sense of loss and brings our attention to this
global event.
