Work by photography students. Much of the work examines issues of identity and community while coming of age. Other students veer from this concept to practice traditional and experimental photography drawing influence from master artists.

Work by photography students

Collaborations II brings together students from four area high schools, who worked together throughout the year, in a public exhibition of their photographs. The exhibition, curated by the students and teachers, runs April 8 - 17 and showcases work by students from each of the four schools. Participants will celebrate their accomplishment with family, friends and visitors to HCP at the opening reception, Friday, April 8, 6-8 pm. Gallery talks with a select group of students and their teachers will be held Saturday, April 9, 1 pm.

Much of the work examines issues of identity and community while coming of age. Viewers are provided a revealing glimpse at the world of local youth, from their own eyes, crossing cultural boundaries. Other students veer from this concept to practice traditional and experimental photography drawing influence from master artists.

All four schools are well known in the Houston area for their outstanding photography programs. Cypress Ridge High School has a young but quickly expanding program led by Jamie Ladysh and Mandy Peyrani. Jack Yates High School photography students exhibit annually at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston through the Eye on Third Ward program. Taught by Ray Carrington III, photography students at Yates explore their family, friends and neighbors of Houston’s historic Third Ward neighborhood through the lens. Work by Jersey Village High School photography students has been featured in numerous group exhibitions throughout the area and are taught by Jason Neumann, a former HCP Fellowship recipient. The Kinkaid School has fostered award-winning photography students taught by David Veselka, who has been an educator at Kinkaid for more than twenty years.
