Art On the Move Project. It's a yearlong project on Performance/Live Art. Series of performances, workshops and seminars will be organized every 2-3 months, exploring thematic issues around the China Art Scene, Gender and Body, Social Activists, Globalization, WTO and etc.

Opening Festival

Participating Artists: Anthony Leung Po Shan + Pun Chi Hung, Chen Shi Shen, Frog King, Ko Siu Lan, Mok Chiu Yu, Priscilla Leung Siu Wai, Project 266, Ricky Tse, Tsang Tak-ping, voila, wen yau, Seiji Shimoda (Japan)

Hong Kong Performance Art On the Move Project is a yearlong project on Performance/Live Art. It is for the first time to gather most of the Performance/Live art practitioners in Hong Kong. Series of performances, workshops and seminars will be organized every 2-3 months, exploring thematic issues around the China Art Scene, Gender and Body, Social Activists, Globalization, WTO and etc. International artists will take parts in each occasion to encourage intense exchange with local artists and audiences. An archival documentation will accompany with the series of events to record and prosper the art form in Hong Kong.

About the Artists and Speakers:

Anthony Leung Po Shan + Pun Chi Hung Leung is an artist/ cultural worker. Her installation, theater and performance art works have been widely presented locally and abroad. She is also a researcher/ writer on contemporary art. Pun is a social-activist as well as video artist and musician. He is the director of “touching particles”, an on-going project to explore alternative artistic expression.

Chen Shi Shen/San Mu is a performance artist. He has participated in many performance arts events in Hong Kong and overseas. He is one of the curators of the project.

Damian Cheng/ Siu Sai is a PhD candidate at the Cultural Studies Department of the Lingnan University, Hong Kong. His research interests include discourse analysis, historical epistemology, gender studies and theatre studies.

Frog King is an artist whose work encompasses a wide variety of media, including calligraphy, sculpture, graffiti, performance art and photography. His is one of the first performance artists in Hong Kong.

Ko Siu Lan is an artist/ cultural/development worker. She works on community development and cultural action projects. She has participated in performance art events both locally and overseas. She is one of the curators of the project.

Mok Chiu Yu is a curator/ director/performer who strives to promote arts to different disadvantaged communities. He is the founder of Asian People’s Theatre Festival Society and the artistic director of the project.

Priscilla Leung Siu Wai is a vocal artist exploring possibilities of human voices as a performing media. She also collaborates with artists of different genres in theatre, video and installation performance.

Project 266 is an art group composed of artists, art administrators and art teachers. Their projects are mainly in the medium of performance, video and photography art. They seek ways to challenge complacency and fixed beliefs in society and arts.

Ricky Tse is an artist with visual impairment. He is the leading actor in different theatre plays and has performed in Hong Kong and overseas.

Seiji Shimoda is an artist/poet. He is the director of Nippon International Performance Art Festival (NIPAF). He has participated and nurtured the growth of many performance arts festivals around the globe. He is also a Lecturer at the Musashino Art University, Tokyo.

Tsang Tak-ping is a photo/installation/performance artist. He is the founding member of Para/Site Art Space and habitus Design Space. He teaches as Associate Professor in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Thomas Berghuis is a PHD candidate at the University of Sydney researching on Performance Art practices in China. His art criticism has been published in newspapers and arts journals.

voila is a performance artist and physiotherapist. She is interested in exploring different dimensions of the body and sexuality. She has participated in various theatre and performance arts project.

wen yau is a media and live artist based in Hong Kong. She has been creating & curating various live art, digital media and educational projects. Currently she is engaging in a year-long performance series adapted from Bertolt Brecht and a research project on interdisciplinary practices in Hong Kong art scene.
