The Centre for Contemporary Photography moves into its new home

The Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP) is about to officially open its new building, in the heart of Fitzroy. Designed by award winning Melbourne architect Sean Godsell, the new purpose built CCP provides contemporary photography with a home worthy of international acclaim.

The building will be officially opened on Thursday April 28 from 6 - 8pm, by Mary Delahunty MP, Minister for the Arts. The 2005 exhibition program will also be launched at this time, including work by Selina Ou, Matthew Sleeth, Aaron Seeto and Brendan Lee.

The Annual Kodak Autumn Salon will also be showing in the two main galleries, and judging the awards are: Andrew Jaspan (editor The Age), Patrick Corrigan AM (collector and philanthropist), Susan Fereday (artist) and Naomi Cass (director, Centre for Contemporary Photography)

KEY ASPECTS

Expanded and improved visitor experience
Visitors to the new CCP are drawn through an elegant and varied arrangement of purpose built exhibition spaces leading to the main gallery in the heart of the building. The five spaces range from long focused galleries, punctuated with seating and wells of natural light, through to a projection window screening DVD and video work, viewed from the exterior of the building at night. The experience is one of both architectural and photographic beauty.

Retail facilities
Visitors to the new CCP can take home something of their experience by purchasing from the small, yet stunning retail area. It will stock a select range of photographs from emerging to mid-career Australian artists, CCP shirts and a unique selection of photography books catering for general and specialist needs.

VISY education space
A specific area for teaching will vastly improve educational and public programs. Importantly, the facility will also bring specialist photography classes (currently taught off-site) within the CCP envelope.
