New Art Fair Offers Comprehensive Selection of Modern and Contemporary Art, Plus Antiques and Decorative Objects

CHICAGO CONTEMPORARY & CLASSIC REFLECTS 21ST CENTURY COLLECTING

The first annual Chicago Contemporary & Classic offers a fresh approach to the international art exposition. Created to provide a new direction for Chicago’s spring art fair, CC&C will showcase modern and contemporary art galleries alongside a complementary selection of European and American classical dealers, offering collectors and art enthusiasts a truly unique experience in a casual and contemporary context.

To be held April 29-May 2, 2005 in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall, Chicago Contemporary & Classic presents approximately 100 galleries in a sophisticated yet casual setting where the anticipated 25,000 collectors, museum curators and arts aficionados can comfortably study and appreciate a broad spectrum of exhibits.

An educational component to the fair features experts in a variety of fields hosting panel discussions open to the public. A lively series of lectures is designed to enhance the overall appreciation of the works on view, and will surely lead to more informed collecting practices.

Working in tandem with the cultural community in Chicago to ensure an expansive range of activities during the 4-day event, Chicago Contemporary & Classic promises an exciting new experience in the world of contemporary art fairs.

"Hosting our fair the week prior will significantly increase our ability to better serve both the galleries and the collectors," said Ilana Vardy, the show's director. "We are very pleased that the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority was able to make this important change in the schedule." Navy Pier's MPEA has guaranteed these new dates to Chicago Contemporary & Classic in Festival Hall for the next seven years.

A wide array of international galleries has already signed on to participate in CC&C.

"We are very excited by the response we have been getting," continued Vardy. "We're confident that Chicago Contemporary & Classic will provide a genuinely exciting and eclectic array of contemporary and modern art, plus a selection of some of the finest textiles, modern furniture and objects, and antiques, and other categories. This fair will truly have something for everyone interested in art and in learning about a wider range of categories than are typically offered at art fairs." A complete list of galleries will be released soon.

Many of the world's leading exhibitors will fill Navy Pier's Festival Hall for CC&C. An educational component to the fair will feature experts in a variety of fields hosting panel discussions open to the public. A series of talks will enhance the overall appreciation of the works on view and will provide a variety of informed opinions regarding collecting in many media.

The Chicago office for CC&C is located at 11 East Adams Street, with veteran art fair organizers Thomas Hart and Joelle Rabion managing the operation. Vardy, who also directs Art Miami, oversees both teams working in tandem to produce this major event.

The International Art Group is a division of Pfingsten Publishing, L.L.C., which is owned by private equity firm Pfingsten Partners, located in Deerfield, Illinois. Pfingsten Publishing, the world's largest producer of art shows and art-related publications, produces eight art shows, including Art Miami - every year in January at the Miami Beach Convention Center - and five publications, including Art Business News.
