Bruges embodies culture. The festival brings art and culture to life; it makes creative life in the city tangible. The human body is the point of departure and the source of inspiration for all the projects. Each of many of Bruges' cultural players is working within its own particular discipline - visual art, cultural heritage, dance, video, photography, music, theatre, wordmanship... - to give shape to the theme.

Corpus
Corpus Bruges ’05 brings art and culture to life. The festival is an opportunity to experience art and culture first hand. It makes creative life in the city tangible. The human body is the point of departure and the source of inspiration for all the projects. Each of many of Bruges’ cultural players is working within its own particular discipline - visual art, cultural heritage, dance, video, photography, music, theatre, wordmanship… - to give shape to the theme. Among them institutions with international kudos, such as the Concertgebouw, the Festival of Flanders International and the Municipal Museums of Bruges.
Corpus Bruges ’05 is looking to integrate the familiar and the new. Guaranteed box office hits and daring, provocative experiments for the highbrow coexist in a well-balanced programme. Particularly striking is the cross-fertilization among all the disciplines and the close cooperation among Bruges’ cultural institutions.
Besides being very much in evidence in the programme, topical themes like sexuality, the body in motion, beauty and discrimination are also explored through public activities and walks, lectures and workshops. Corpus Bruges ’05 has opted for a fresh, up-market approach in a programme that is full of variety and sure to whet the appetites of a diverse public
Bruges ‘05
Since the cultural year 2002, Bruges has been known for far more than just its historical patrimony and tourism. Thanks largely to the contribution of its various cultural institutions, Bruges is now well and truly on the map as an active city of culture. The non-profit organization Brugge Plus vzw was able to capitalize on this when putting together a new, large-scale, five-yearly cultural project. Not a cultural capital of Europe this time, but a festival in which art and culture loom large in the cityscape for four whole months. Building on the foundations laid in 2002, Corpus Bruges ’05 has gone in search of lasting and creative contacts with the worlds of culture, tourism and education. It addresses the citizens of Bruges and those living in the wider region, but also national and international arts lovers. So there is an original package to suit every taste.
