"Migrations" brings together artists, critics and curators working at the edges and margins of contemporary performance who share an interest in the movement and ephemerality of performance, and a commitment to engaging with the contexts within which performance can take place. Underlying the project is the desire to bring each contributor together in a collaborative dialogue with another artist and/ or critic on the processes and contexts of the work.
Process & Performance.
"Migrations" brings together artists, critics and curators working at the edges and margins of contemporary performance who share an interest in the movement and ephemerality of performance, and a commitment to engaging with the contexts within which performance can take place.
Where is performance located? How is it linked to the particularities of place and time? What kinds of process and strategies are used to generate perfomance events? How does performance travel? How does performance engage with the ideas and contexts of the city? How does performance migrate between surfaces and sites?
Contributors (both emerging and established artists) have been invited from a wide range of backgrounds, experience and performance networks to explore such questions, to stimulate international and cross- disciplinary exchange, to share their experiences of practice, and discuss their perceptions of the place and context of recent performance making.
This four-day public project will provide both contributors and participants with the opportunity to engage with and discuss work made for differing types of spaces, contexts and audiences - site - based, ephemeral, intensive, gallery/ studio-based, web-based, page-based, audio/ time based - placed within the context of the city of Barcelona and the Centre for Contemporary Culture.
Underlying the project is the desire to bring each contributor together in a collaborative dialogue with another artist and/or critic on the processes and contexts of the work.
