Temple Bar Gallery and Studios invites you to get behind the image and find
out what being an artist is all about on our annual Studios' Open Day on
Saturday 17th September, 2-6pm. Delight in the chance to chat to any of
the twenty artists who will throw open their doors providing a rare chance
to see a huge variety of work and in some cases to buy directly from the
artists themselves. Find out about the different practices of making art
and get a rare "back stage' view of the artist's studio. The TBG&S Open Day
is a free event and all interested members of the public are welcome.
Visitors will be able to enjoy first-hand the diversity of work being
produced in the artistic hub of Temple Bar, ranging from elegant paintings,
whimsical drawings, large scale designs, video, photography to sculpture.
The impressive line-up of artists for this year's Open Day is a mixture of
established Irish artists and emerging young talent including Robert
Armstrong, Michael Boran, Mark Clare, Paul Coleman, Fergus Feehily, Sean
Fingleton, Patricia Hurl, Gillian Kane, Katrina Maguire, Ronan McCrea, Paul
McKinley, John Moore, Joe Moran, Makiko Nakamura, Isabel Nolan, Gavin
O¹Curry, Augustine O'Donoghue, Therry Rudin, Margaret Tuffy and Joe and Pat
Walker.
Temple Bar Gallery and Studios' work spaces are non-residential and are
designed to provide opportunities for artists to develop their creative
practice. The studios programme is central to the organisation. By making
the Open Day a firm fixture on our annual calendar we hope to reinforce our
policy of accessibility and openness. Light refreshments will be served
throughout the afternoon, 2-6pm, on this fun, family day for all.
TBG&S was established by artists in 1983 in response to the increasing
demands for affordable studio spaces in Dublin city centre, a move which
proved to be crucial in consolidating Temple Bar¹s status as Dublin's
cultural quarter. In the mid-1990's a new gallery and studio complex was
custom-designed for the company by leading Irish architects McCullough /
Mulvin. Today Temple Bar Gallery and Studios is one of Ireland's
contemporary art venues.
