OPENING 2000

Mladinsko Theatre, Ljubljana

comunicato stampa

In the winter of 1999, the Mladinsko Theatre successfully participated at the V. European Theatre Feastival in Nice, France / with the production You Never See Me Where I See You based on Shakespeare, Nietzche and Lacan, in the direction of Matja* Berger.

The 1999-2000 season started with two new productions on our part:

The Seagull directed by the promising young director Tomi Jane*iè; currently involved with Chekhov’s masterpiece, Jane*iè already boasts an outstanding personal version of Sophocles’ King Oedipus from the previous season.

A new artistic project by Eduard Miler, a director 'specializing' in Bertolt Brecht and Heiner Müller; faced with the postcatastrophic/postwar period of the nineties, however, the director embarked upon Ernst Toller's Hinkemann.

We have also revived some of the most successful performances of our last season / A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare/Rozman) directed by Vito Taufer, as well as Who's Afraid of Tennessee Williams and Tirza, both directed by Matja* Pograjc. To celebrate the end of the century and the millennium, we are putting up our 111th staging of Lingren's Pippi (adapted by Rozman), in the direction of Vito Taufer. The event will take place on December 30th / one night before the big turn!

January and February will be dedicated to the upcoming projects by Vito Taufer, Matja* Pograjc, Sebastijan Horvat and Matja* Berger: springing
from different backgrounds, the four artists employ diverse directional principles, all producing, however, contemporary theatre of the highest quality, excelling in energy and the power of invention.

Our first premiere of the year 2000 will be Juliette / Justine / a theatrical adaptation of the novel by Marquis de Sade, in the direction of Sebastijan Horvat. It will take place on January 23rd, hopefully to be performed throughout the season. In January, we will also present the classical tragedy King Oedipus - the aforementioned hit version by Tomi Jane*iè, his vision of Chekhov's Seagull, as well as A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Vito Taufer.
