Artgames

Ludwig Forum, Aachen

26 contemporary international artists who explore the parallels between art and games. Artgames is meant as an interactive show that relies on the direct sensual experience of role plays, games, toys and experiments in order to establish a communication between artists and visitors. Playing is one of the pre-conditions for the creation of art in the first place. Ever since the 20th century avant-garde has questioned the borders between genres by playfully exploring alternative means of expression and integrating new media.

26 contemporary international artists who explore the parallels between art and games

Both 'art' and 'games' can be considered as parallel worlds that share structural analogies with what we call reality. Yet they have their own rules and laws, they exist in their own space and time. They are both autonomous systems that are independent of the coordinates and causalities that determine our daily lives. They are free.

Moreover, playing is one of the pre-conditions for the creation of art in the first place. This especially applies to contemporary art ever since the 20th century avant-garde has questioned the borders between genres by playfully exploring alternative means of expression and integrating new media.

Artgames is meant as an interactive show that relies on the direct sensual experience of role plays, games, toys and experiments in order to establish a communication between artists and visitors.
