Widely known for his diverse use of media, scale and approaches, Ringe (Rings) shows his intervening in architectural spaces. Six hundred brightly coloured wooden rings hang irregularly to the walls, uniting the exhibition space and the work of art itself. Engaging with the 1960s and 1970s dialogue on institutional context, this work demonstrates his interest in the relationship between art and architecture and the conditions of presentation.

Faggionato Fine Art is delighted to present an installation by the pre-eminent German artist Thomas Schutte.
Widely known for his diverse use of media, scale and approaches, Ringe (Rings) shows Schutte intervening in architectural spaces. Six hundred brightly coloured wooden rings hang irregularly to the walls, uniting the exhibition space and the work of art itself. Engaging with the 1960s and 1970s dialogue on institutional context, this work demonstrates his interest in the relationship between art and architecture and the conditions of presentation. Significantly, the rings are hung in a controlled but irregular pattern, challenging the formulaic model of Daniel Buren whilst simultaneously asserting the value of the decorative.
Thomas Schutte lives and works in Dusseldorf, Germany. Recent solo exhibitions have included: Museu Serralves, Porto, 2005; Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Winterthur, 2003, this exhibition later traveled to Musee de Grenoble, and K21, Kunstsammlung Nordhein-Westfalen, Dusseldorf, 2003-04; Sammlung Goetz, Munich, 2001; Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, 1998. He is also one of two winners for the Trafalgar Square’s 4th plinth project. His piece Hotel for the Birds is scheduled to be installed by the summer and will remain in place for 12-18 months.
