Latin American retrospective ‘from one break-through to another’: presenting an innovative Latin-American
cinema that is permanently searching for an identity on that continent. The films in this category challenge the
spectator to question the role of cinema in a changing and often tormented society. The originality of this cinema,
its often bitter and satirical view of society, accompanies the craftsman’s technique that often comes with
collective productions.
An overview of young African cinema demonstrating the preoccupations of a new generation of cineasts.
The Festival shows a cinema that is both modern and close to young Africans: funny yet ironic and above all
rooted in African reality.
The Planet School: these viewings accompanied by appropriate presentations aim at opening-up the
schools to a world of new cinema not often known to it. Workshops are organised in local secondary schools to
students who then view a selection of the Festivals choice.
Video Morning: to allow professionals to view some of the large selection of documentaries, projections will be
organised in a separate hall.
Separate exhibitions have been organised during the Festival:
- at the Cantonal University Library (BCU) - in the Festival marquee photo exhibition on Pygmies peoples in
Central African Republic.
CARITAS will decorate the official tent of the Festival on occasion of its 100th
anniversary.
