Revelation. Representations of Christ in Photography
Featuring works from the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the exhibition highlights the significance of Christian iconography and the image of the Virgin Mary in photography. It looks back to the beginnings of photography and works whose controversial nature has kept them out of the public eye until now.
The list of photographers in the exhibition demonstrates clearly that the life and suffering of Christ are by no means insignificant aspects of twentieth century photography. Artists who have contributed major works to the exhibition range from Man Ray and John Heartfield to Marina Abramovic.
The exhibition was originally organised by the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and will now be shown in a new context in the Gallery Rooms of Kunsthalle Krems.

Leo Zogmayer: schon
Leo Zogmayer examines the relationship between art, space and the observer. His works are often conceived in such a way that floor, walls, doors and other fixtures are involved as equal elements in the paintings.
Zogmayer’s art consists not of fixing the gaze on the object but of creating a communicative frame of reference for the observer. Specially for the exhibition, he has developed a work adapted to the spatial situation of the Central Hall of Kunsthalle Krems.
