It is a summer tradition for galleries to present group exhibitions by gallery artists. Hence it is the perfect time for The Group show to examine the fundamental issues concerning and relating to the idea of a group. The show examines the multi-faceted approach artists often assume in their practice and offers a critique of the art market's necessity for a cohesive and singular artistic identity which can be easily defined and packaged for art consumption.

The Group presents a range of ideas dealing with the process of art making and thoughts about the relationship between the creative impulse and the finished 'art object'. Rather than coming up with a conclusive method and a definite approach this show is more concerned with the creative possibilities open to artists and the playful attitude inherent in experimentation and exploration.

The Group practice suggests a collectivization of ideas. It challenges notions of authenticity and encourages an acceptance of the paradox of parallel co-existence, a singular entity constructed from a multi faceted personality. A self, whose individual identity is not fixed but like a morphing composite, forever in the process of becoming. The creative and united approach taken by The Group displays hints of an inner life rich in personal interconnection. Like a glimpse inside someone's head, it reveals the varied concerns and meditations forming and evolving. The artists, like fractured multiple personalities suggest a need to collect and bring together separate elements, linking them in order to create a whole.
