In 1998, Sara Lee Corporation embarked upon an unprecedented act of corporate
philanthropy. At a ceremony attended by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, the
corporation announced that it would distribute the entire top tier of its renowned
art collection, 52 works in all, to 40 museums around the world. While other
American corporations have sold their art collections or have given individual
pieces to museums, Sara Lee is the first corporation to donate a collection of
important works by master artists to a global network of institutions. Monet to
Moore: The Millennium Gift of Sara Lee Corporation assembles the works in
the Sara Lee's Millennium Gift for a final showing before they are dispersed.
Among the artists represented in the collection are Claude Monet, Edgar Degas,
Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, Berthe Morisot, Paul Gauguin, Henri de
Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Raoul Dufy, Henri Matisse, Marc
Chagall, Fernand Léger, Alberto Giacometti, and Henry Moore. The Art Institute's showing presents the last opportunity to
see this important corporate collection before it is dispersed to museums throughout the country and abroad. Twelve works
in this collection will remain on permanent view in the Art Institute.

Collection.

Art Institute of Chicago.
Other Venues: Monet to Moore was on view at the Singapore Art Museum, April 1May 30, 1999, and the National
Gallery of Australia in Canberra, June 11August 22, 1999. The exhibition will be on view at the North Carolina Museum of
Art, Raleigh, North Carolina, September 10November 7, 1999; Portland Art Museum, Portland, Oregon, November 19,
1999January 23, 2000.
