Four days of interventions, occurrences and happenings that punctuate the shifting landscape of Liverpool city centre.

Through performative walks, radio interventions, guided tours and sited performances, the artists invite you to re-look at the urban landscape and how its shifting planes affect you:

my city - my geography - my journeys - my nation - my religion

Take a trip around a roundabout, look again at the local shops, double-take at passers-by, peer under the floorboards of a local landmark. All may not be as it seems.

A number of these pieces are intended to occur around the city centre, to be witnessed by the incidental passer-by. Locations and times will never be specific, but contact us by phone or web and we’ll point you in the right direction!

During Liverpool Biennial 2006, artists are extending their work beyond conventional gallery boundaries, bringing live art to audiences in a surprising variety of locations.
With Bluecoat closed for a major development, its live art programme, Liverpool Live 06, is being presented in the city centre’s public spaces and at other venues. A main theme running through the programme is the changing urban environment, specifically the context of Liverpool’s current transition through regeneration projects like Paradise Development, the largest retail/mixed use development in Western Europe.

This theme picks up on the notion - proposed by Manray Hsu, consultant curator of Liverpool Biennial’s International 06 exhibition - of archipuncture, artistic interventions intended to heal the sick ‘body’ of the city, fatigued and reconfigured by ongoing development, its roads re-routed, buildings torn down and new ones erected.

The city’s streets, public spaces, shops and other buildings become sites for performances, talks, walks, tours and actions, many of them created by international and UK artists specifically for Liverpool Live 06. In more intimate locations, hidden spaces are imaginatively revealed, whilst at night the social environment of pub and club are evoked.

Liverpool Live 06 is a Bluecoat Arts Centre project, co-produced by hAb.

Urban Apparitions sited programme, talks and context developed in association with Live Art Development Agency and Cathy Butterworth.

Social club evening programme developed in collaboration with Walk the Plank and The Gang.
