comunicato stampa

Now in its 4th year International Art Fair (IAF) is at the forefront of exhibiting the best in contemporary art from emerging independent artists.

IAF 06 8 - 12th November (private viewing 8th invitation only), returns to a more intimate setting this year for the display of selected works by some 34 independent artists at the stunning Christ Church, in the regenerated area of Spitalfields, East London. This Hawksmoor church received a RIBA award for the extensive restoration work it has undergone, and is a magnificent example of Baroque architecture. Dubbed the St Paul’s Cathedral of East London, its well worth a visit in its own right but a fabulous venue to set off works by a gifted group of photographers, painters, drawers, sculptors and mixed media artists.

IAF support committee member Tara Cranswick, CEO of V22 Contemporary Art Collection says “The Inspired Art Fair represents everything that is great about being involved in art in London. Dissatisfied with traditional ways of interacting with the art world and the market, more and more artists are taking matters into their own hands and creating their own ways of interacting with new audiences.

“This is not a new phenomenon, and has been feted since Damien Hirst's Freeze, but the momentum, audience and respect for this type of event is growing, and making London one of the most exciting places to be in the art world.

This year IAF are also proud to announce Whitechapel Art Gallery as their chosen charity for 2006.Click here to preview our 2006 artists work.

IAF's unique and rigorous selection process ensures quality both technically and artistically, resulting in the fair showcasing the freshest talents in contemporary art. On this years selection panel are: Jo George (Managing Director IAF), Susan Barnes (Former Director Hayward Gallery), and Kirsten Dunne (Arts Council).

The selection process offers collectors, buyers and art enthusiasts the ability to buy with confidence, and is an excellent opportunity to see a huge variety of pre selected work. IAF06 will be taking part in the Whitechapel Art Gallery/Arts council Own Art Scheme. This scheme provides a great opportunity for lovers of contemporary art by offering an interest free loan of up to £2000, paid back in 10 monthly installments.

With original works at IAF06 ranging from £50 - £5,000, and the Whitechapel Art Gallery selling their superb limited edition prints by Anish Kapoor, Alex Katz, and Ugo Rondinone, the Own Art Scheme makes buying contemporary art a reality.

Aprilia Art Challenge Winners Announced

We are pleased to announce the winners of the Aprilia Art Challenge. Click here to check out our winner Jody Boehnert, who constructed two characters out of an Aprilia Mojito scooter to represent the human as the machine; symbolic of the nature of urban life. You can also view her work at the fair.

A close second Manuel Hernandez, depicts the Aprilia Mojito scooter (a symbol of urban life) as a series of sculpture-like, animalistic forms, the series explores in a light-hearted manner, the scooter's nature and gives us insight into the playful and up-lifting aspects of our modern lives where technology, urban lifestyles and nature co-exit.

In third place Tim Taylor's 'Trip the Light Fantastic', piece consists of a geometrical display of all the lights and reflectors of the scooter. The piece alludes to travelling through the city at night and references the bright lights of the big city, an integral quality of 'The Nature of Urban Life'.
