Group show
Wallspace is pleased to present “Cataract" a group show organized by the participating artists in collaboration with gallery directors Janine Foeller and Jane Hait.
The show Cataract came about as a relay amongst friends. The chain of events is something like this: Michael R speaks to Michael Q about similarities in our photographs and in the way we use the camera; Michael R mentions this to Erika V; Erika V discusses this with Shannon E; Shannon E jumps at opportunity for a show offered by J+J; Shannon enlists Michael Q and Nancy D; Talks begin about Jim W and the burden of pedagogy; Mark W is enlisted to write an essay as he is familiar with everyone’s work and is a mutual friend and artist; Negotiations regarding photography and medium begin; Michael Q and Nancy D surprise conference call Erika V and Shannon S; Discussions about a title for the show result; Arthur O is also recruited; A two hour conference call follows; Photography, now the elephant in the room, remains a heated topic; Nancy D emails a list of titles for the show and cataract is chosen as a way to deal with vision while excluding photography proper.
Artists: Nancy de Holl, Shannon Ebner, Arthur Ou, Michael Queenland, Michael Rashkow, Erika Vogt.
