The Stephen Cohen Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographs by Aernout Overbeeke. Reminiscent of the 19th century Flemish artists, with whom he shares his homeland, Overbeeke transports the viewer to another time and space. By subduing lush, vibrant colors into more subtle earth tones, Overbeeke emotionally captivates each scene with rich and sensual light. Punctuated by man or nature, his landscapes flow effortlessly and time stands still.

Assignments for Deutsche Telecom, Mercedes and Randstad employment agency currently account for much of Overbeeke’s work. A recipient of several awards from The Association of Photographers (Gold and Silver between 1994 and 1997) among several others, he has striven to be recognized outside of The Netherlands as more than just "another calendar photographer".
For Overbeeke the process is, "…like catching beautiful butterflies that you have to mount very carefully so as not to destroy them. I love beautiful images, paintings. Photography is nothing more than that. Some people bring home souvenirs from (their visits) to foreign countries. The pictures I take are my souvenirs, my treasures."
There will be a reception for the artist on Friday, June 8 from 7pm to 9pm.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm and by appointment.
