La Galleria Marabini e' orgogliosa di presentare per la seconda volta la mostra di Beverly Semmes. Per questo nuovo appuntamento, Semmes ha ideato una mostra multidisciplinare che comprende due sculture di stoffa, un’edizione di stampe litografiche, due sculture in vetro e l’installazione ‘Petunia’.

Attraverso la storia dell'arte, la rappresentazione di abiti ha giocato un ruolo significante, includendo un vasto repertorio di implicazioni e significati - emotivi, sessuali, economici, teatrali e architettonici. L’artista e' internazionalmente nota per i suoi abiti fuori misura che possono essere interpretati come segno di potere ma anche d’isolamento. L’oggetto d’uso quotidiano acquisisce una forte carica simbolica.

Semmes usa stoffe e abiti come medium: abiti giganteschi contengono metafore di cascate, alberi, laghi, installazioni che spesso occupano intere stanze. L'intento e' manipolare il luogo comune di moda e femminilita' e il riferimento al fuori scala dell' oggetto quotidiano appartiene al Surrealismo e alla Pop Art, ma anche al tardo Minimalismo di Robert Morris.

L’artista, nata a Washington, vive e lavora a New York, ha esposto i suoi lavori in importanti spazi pubblici e privati tra cui il P.S.1 Museum di Long Island a New York, Il Museum of Contemporary Art di Chicago, il Whitney Museum of American Art di New York, la Biennale della Moda di Firenze, il Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci a Prato, La Biennale Internazionale di Istanbul in Turchia.

Numerose istituzioni museali hanno acquisito all’interno delle proprie collezioni permanenti lavori di Beverly Semmes, tra questi: Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washinghton D.C., Berkeley Museum of Art, Berkeley CA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublino.

Galleria Marabini is glad to present, for the second time, Beverly Semmes’s exhibition. For this new event, Semmes had devised a multidisciplinary exhibition which includes two fabric sculptures, an edition of lithographic printing works, two glass sculptures and the installation “Petunia".

Throughout art history, the representation of clothes has played a key role, including a wide range of implications and meanings - emotional, sexual, economic, theatrical and architectural. The artist is world-famous for her oversize clothes which can be interpreted both as a symbol of power and as a sign of isolation. Daily life items acquire a strongly symbolic connotation.

Semmes uses fabric and clothes as a means: enormous clothes contain metaphors of waterfalls, trees, lakes, installations which often occupy entire rooms. The idea is to manipulate the stereotypes of fashion and femininity, the reference to oversize daily objects stems from Surrealism and Pop Art, but also dates back to Robert Morris’s Minimalism.

The artist, born in Washington, D.C., lives and works in New York, her works have been exhibited in important public and private spaces, including the P.S. 1 Museum of Long Island, New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art of New York, the Biennale della Moda of Florence, the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci of Prato, the International Biennial Exhibition of Istanbul, Turkey.
