Lifescapes
Joie Lassiter Gallery announces "Lifescapes" - the premier exhibition for
Scott Griffin. This exhibit opens Friday, February 2nd and will be on view
through the end of February. Originally from Kingsport, Tennessee, Griffin
graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with B.F.A. in
Painting in 1992. His latest work reveals his deeper understanding of the
life force that he finds so fascinating and explores a more sophisticated
approach representing that ineffable energy.
Scott Griffin is fascinated by the life force that unites Earth's flora and
fauna in a common bond, transcending both time and space. In his recent work
he creates vivid three-dimensional visions of imaginary spaces defined by a
rich profusion of life. Griffin strategically layers paintings and photo
collage inspired by his recent travels to the Cloud Forest in Peru and
Eastern Europe, using clear polyester resin, paint and iridescent pigments
to map intricate, exotic botanical scenes.
His compositions contain what appear to be flowers, coral, rock formations
and even sea anemones frozen in organic dioramas. The result is a series of
atmospheric landscapes which combine undersea life, terrestrial plants,
minerals and anatomical details into one delightful, richly conceptual
tableau. The "Lifescapes" series is foremost a celebration of life. In
addition to providing a luminous depth to the work, the resin also functions
conceptually, binding the life forms together in a clear liquid, much like
the common binder of all life, water. These works show the living beauty the
artist has found, and reflect a universal connectedness.
